Now that our team has recuperated form our challenging mission, I am pleased to be able to submit this report on what will remain with us as the most successful of our missions to date.

My enthusiasm stems from the fact that we were able to attain our goals, thanks to a perfect team and a wonderful collaborative effort.

Our goal was to perform 12 obstetrical fistula surgeries and we actually accomplished 13. Our second objective was to train a new surgeon. She excelled through her talent and was able to train two new nurses. We also improved the knowledge and capacity of several nurse anaesthetists and surgical nurses. Our third objective was to assist Marie Ève and Julie in their anthropological study with the aim of better evaluating and comprehending the process of the women’s social rehabilitation after surgery. Their stay allowed them to complete all the patient interviews and to satisfactorily organise discussion groups involving patients and  the Quebecois and African care givers.
